Removing rear bumper

  • Remove tail lights
  • Remove bolts -4- on left and right sides in area of wheel housing liner.
  • Remove bolts -3- (pointing upwards) on left and right.
  • Unscrew bolts -6- and remove clip -7-.
  • Pull rear bumper cover -1- out of fasteners in lateral guides, -arrows b-.
  • Further dismantling requires the help of a second mechanic (just in theory :P)
  • Release fasteners -arrows a- at lateral guides -2-.
  • Pull rear bumper cover -1- parallel off vehicle -arrows c-.
  • Remove connectors of all installed electrical components, e.g. -5-, number plate lights.

Installing rear bumper

  • Fit rear bumper cover -1- with the aid of a second mechanic -arrows a-.
  • Secure all existing connectors in place.

Note: When fitting the rear bumper cover, make sure that it runs parallel along the left and right guide profiles.

  • Push rear bumper cover -1- onto centre guide profile and onto left and right guide profile -arrows b- until they engage audibly with each other
  • Check that parts are parallel and gaps are even
  • Fit bolts -3, 4 and 5- in place and tighten them to the respective specified torques
  • Fasten clip -6-

  2. Lateral guide
    • Left and right.
  3. Bolt
    • Left and right.
    • Points upwards.
    • Specified torque: 2 Nm
    • Bolted to side panel.
  4. Bolt
    • Qty. 4.
    • Specified torque: 2 Nm
    • Bolted to wheel housing liner.
  5. Registration plate light
  6. Bolt
    • Qty. 2 on each side.
    • Specified torque: 2 Nm
    • Bolted to rear panel.
  7. Clip
    • Qty. 1

Useful parts

Clip

Located in the middle of the bumper (7), it’s made of plastic and it’s easy to damage – if it breaks, it’s better to buy a new one – it costs pennies.
