Polo AW 2019+ double USB 2.0 charging port in Polo 6R armrest — teaser 2 (testing, cutting and fitting)

Here is my previous post about OEM Polo AW double USB charging port.

How to connect rear double USB charging ports from Polo AW in Polo 6R?

I noticed that Polo AW rear charger 2G0035954 is similar to double usb port 5Q0035726L from Skoda Octavia / VW Touareg 3 / VW Sharan 3 / VW Atlas / Audi Q5 / Seat Ateca 2018 etc.

I did a little research, and found bigazaz‘s post, and photo of factory connector.
There are 2 wires only: GND and positive:

Thanks for this photo bigazaz !

On the motor-talk forum, people from Germany wrote that by retrofitting a rear charger to their Polo AW they simply connected it to the front cigarette lighter socket. I think it’s a good idea and I plan to do it in the same way.

Testing Polo AW double USB charging ports

My Malaysian friend Benzinkopf asked me to check how many amps come through the charger, so I connected it to the battery (as in the picture below). BTW. This isn’t a secure connection, don’t do it in the house! And not in the car/garage either! 🙃 When connecting, remember about the fuse!

I tested it and connect my phone, but during the test, my HTC U11 was over 60% so there it was not possible to fully use the charger power:

so next I connected my bluetooth speaker and phone:

at the end for better test I connected a powerbank and a bluetooth speaker to one USB socket:

there is something like radiator, but after half hour of working it was still cold.

Cutting a hole for mounting USB charging ports

Time for cutting… Before I started the actual cut in the armrest casing, I made a few test holes.

I used millimeter paper to get more precision and correct alignment:

Here it looks good but for me this is not a satisfactory result:

but… this is not perfect…

I wanted to ask for help my Malaysian friend who has experience in preparing additional 3D printed frames, but I came up with another idea:

I used smaller black rubber O-ring (2.5mm thick) as an additional frame — it fits perfectly, and thanks to the slanted frame of charger it doesn’t fall and it hide small gap from the sides.

The final effect is below:

IMO the final effect is completely acceptable:
