Turbo Cover Plate from Polo R WRC Street

CNK -
Turbo Cover Plate from Polo R WRC Street

Due to changing the coolant pipe bracket 06F145383Q, which I mentioned in the previous post, a new problem arose – the turbo heat shield did not fit the newer bracket.

Since the new heat shield costs over 900 PLN (approx. 200 EUR), and it’s just a piece of sheet metal, I started looking for used parts. That’s how I found the Dutch site TSI-Parts, where the shield together with the bracket was available for 35 EUR. Adding shipping costs, it came to 84 EUR. I’ll probably replace it later anyway, so it should suffice for now. By the way, it is annoying that parts for the Polo are usually much more expensive than parts for the Golf, Leon, or Scirocco…

The heat shield from the Scirocco R/Golf R has the number: 06F129597C / 06F129597F and it does not fit the Polo 6R/Audi A1.

Used set 8X0129597 + 06F145383Q from TSI-Parts:

Golf 6 R, Scirocco R, etc.

This only confirms that sporty versions produced in smaller numbers are not very cheap to maintain. Practically the same sheet metal with slightly different hole spacing costs over 9 times more in the Polo version… No wonder the larger Golfs etc. are more popular 🤷‍♂

Differences

Besides the additional bracket on the coolant pipe, the Polo 6R R WRC Street and Audi A1 Quattro use a two-piece cover plate, fastened with M6x17 flange bolts (N10718801).

Apart from the bracket itself for mounting the pipe to the turbo, you can notice a different shape of the pipe, which is significantly shorter in the case of the Polo.

If anyone plans to do a similar swap while maintaining the factory look, this is essential. When installing a custom intake, it doesn’t matter, so it can be done more cheaply – by throwing in a kit from RamAir or similar.
