In this post, I’ll introduce the Volkswagen backpack with LED lighting that I recently purchased. It’s an interesting addition for anyone who values safety during activities after dark, especially for Volkswagen fans and those who appreciate original VW branded accessories.

Below are several photos showing the backpack from different angles, including in night mode with LED lighting turned on:

What works well
The four red LED strips are clearly visible at night and effectively increase safety. They’re powered by a BL-5C 3.7V 8000mAh Li-ion battery – the same one used in old Nokia phones. According to the manufacturer, it provides about 7.5 hours of continuous lighting on a single charge.

The backpack has a capacity of 20 liters, which is sufficient for everyday needs. I appreciate practical solutions like the rain cover, RFID protective pockets, and additional side compartments. Weighing only 0.67 kg, it’s really lightweight.

What could be better
Turning on the lighting is not very convenient – the switch is located near the battery slot, hidden in a small pocket of the backpack. A more accessible button on the outer part would definitely be more practical, like those found in caps and other LED-equipped clothing.

Another drawback is the use of outdated connectors – the battery is charged using a Micro USB cable, and the extension in the backpack strap has a USB-A connector. In 2025, I would expect a USB-C standard. Especially from a backpack that isn’t exactly cheap.

I haven’t had the opportunity to test the Bluetooth Call Alert system, but I suspect it might also be based on older technology.
Summary
Despite its technological shortcomings, the backpack is well-made and works perfectly as a gadget with the VW logo. Most importantly, it fulfills its basic function – using the lighting while riding at night on a scooter or bicycle significantly increases our safety.
This model costs around €70-120 / $75-125, which places it in the higher price range among everyday backpacks. However, for VW brand fans who value original accessories, it may be a price worth paying.
