Small Car, Big Power – Turkish Rocket on Wheels
Volkswagen Polo is usually associated with an economical city car that doesn’t offer stunning performance. However, the hero of today’s article breaks all stereotypes connected with this model. This is a Volkswagen Polo 6R that has undergone a radical transformation from a standard 1.6 TDI to a true racing machine with a 2.0 TDI engine producing 300 HP!
This extraordinary metamorphosis was documented on the YouTube channel “CV Films,” where we can see the whole story of this project. The film was published in 2019, but it still generates huge interest among tuned car enthusiasts, as evidenced by over 210,000 views.
At first glance, the car stands out with its sporty front bumper styled after the concept Volkswagen Polo R20, which gives it an aggressive look that contrasts with the unassuming character of the standard Polo.
Technical Details of the Modification
What exactly was changed in this Polo? Here are the most important elements:
- Engine:
Replacement of the factory 1.6 TDI (90 HP) with a 2.0 TDI engine from the Volkswagen Amarok. It’s worth noting that the main difference between the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines is primarily the piston stroke (80.5 mm vs. 95.5 mm) and a slightly larger cylinder diameter - Turbocharger:
A modified (so-called hybrid) turbocharger based on the Garrett GT1549 used in 2.0 TDI engines was installed - Air Intake:
A cone filter was installed instead of the standard air filter box, along with a custom air duct that collects more cold air - Battery Relocation:
The battery was moved to the trunk, which is actually a basic modification in sportier Polo models, as it allows placing the normal air filter - Intercooler:
An enlarged intercooler was installed, which is clearly visible at the front of the car because the R20-style bumper doesn’t have a central lower grille, allowing for better cooling of the charged air - Power:
Thanks to the modifications, the car generates approximately 300 HP and 500 Nm of torque - Injectors:
Larger injectors were used, which unfortunately cause smoke, although according to the owner, with standard capacity injectors, it’s possible to achieve clean engine operation - Wheels: A characteristic element is the lightweight wheels from the Audi A3 8L (designation 8L0601025EZ17), which weigh just 5.75 kg each and contribute to reducing unsprung mass
- Body: A front bumper styled after the concept Polo R20 model was installed, which significantly improves the appearance of the car, giving it a more sporty character
Performance and Economy
One of the surprising aspects of this car, apart from its power, is the declared fuel consumption. According to comments under the film and fragments of the description, this 300-horsepower beast supposedly consumes just about 3-4 liters of diesel per 100 km during normal driving. Although these values seem highly optimistic and difficult to achieve in real conditions, even with partial load, it’s worth noting that modern diesel engines can be surprisingly economical.
Acceleration from 100 to 200 km/h takes just about 10.5 seconds, which is a result comparable to some sports cars. The owner claims that his Polo can compete in acceleration even with some Ferrari or BMW M models.
Cost of Modification
Based on the analysis of comments under the film, the total cost of modification was about 25,000 Polish zloty (value from 2019), of which the engine itself cost about 17,000 zloty. However, it should be remembered that since then, the prices of parts and services have increased significantly.
Summary
This project shows how far one can go in modifying a seemingly unassuming car like a Volkswagen Polo. With 300 HP and 500 Nm of torque, this Polo certainly surprises many drivers on the road.
The owner of the car is Ali Atlan, who can be found on Instagram and on YouTube. The film presenting this project can be watched on the YouTube channel CV Films.
