In this article, I present unconventional air intake solutions for the VW Polo 6R/6C, ranging from headlight modifications to setups replacing the fog lights. These rare installations, due to lack of street-legal certification, are primarily used in motorsport (on track or during 1/4-mile competitions).
Since these mods aren’t street legal and have limited effectiveness, they are not suitable for daily use on public roads. In my opinion, they typically don’t provide significantly better airflow – at least not better than the factory intake in the front grille, but they give the car a more rally-inspired look and will definitely attract attention – it’s a mod typically used for events and track days.
Here’s an overview of available options:
Headlight Air Intake by Stephen Chadwick
Left headlight air intake created by Stephen Chadwick from the Polo 6r / 6c Owners Club UK. As shown in the pictures, the modified air guide directs air to the VWR (Racingline) aftermarket air filter.

Headlight Air Intake by Azc Car Style
Turkish-made headlight air intake with a similar design to the previous one, additionally featuring an LED strip that serves as a turn signal. Nevertheless, it’s not suitable for regular road use and has no street-legal certification.

Headlight Air Intake by polowrcnl
Similar modification, where even common sense tells you that the small openings don’t significantly increase airflow. However, it looks aggressive visually and definitely attracts attention.

Headlight Air Intake by CVIA Carbons
The cold air intake in the left headlight from CVIA Carbons is similar to the previous ones. The difference is in the material it’s made from – this one is made of carbon fiber.

Air Intake in Fog Light Grilles
Air ducts replacing fog light grilles, made of fiberglass or carbon fiber. While the manufacturer doesn’t specify which models these grilles fit in their description, judging by the shape, it’s easy to see they only fit the bumper of Polo 6R GTI/BlueGT and 6C BlueGT. It’s a decent option if someone is building their car specifically for quarter-mile competitions and similar events. These can be used as cold air intakes or additional brake cooling, depending on your creative approach.

Price: 334 EUR for carbon fiber parts, 213 USD for fiberglass grilles, 447 USD for carbon fiber grilles – depending on where you buy them from
