New 334mm brake discs for Brembo 17Z calipers

Due to the planned installation of Brembo 17Z calipers, I needed to purchase new, larger brake discs with a diameter of 334mm. Initially, I was considering EBC Turbo Groove – slotted and drilled discs, but after reading dozens of user reviews, I learned that their main drawback is generating significant noise during driving.

So I narrowed down my choice to two models: EBC Blade and EBC Ultimax. With both sets having identical prices, their performance characteristics became the key factor. I emailed brakeparts.pl asking about the differences between these models. They replied that Blade discs run slightly quieter than Ultimax, though it’s worth noting that at higher speeds, any type of slotted discs will be noticeable.

After careful consideration, I decided on the EBC Blade model (BSD1153).

The complete set cost 1,040 PLN.

Interestingly, the 334mm discs from Golf 4 R32 are not only ventilated but also directional – which improves heat dissipation during braking. The left and right sides are different – this needs to be kept in mind during installation.

The discs were delivered in a double cardboard box, which provided adequate protection during transport.

I bolted one disc to the hub to see how the larger diameter would look on the Polo. Now all that’s left is mounting the Brembo 17Z calipers – but that will be covered in the next post.
