New brake servo from Polo 6C GTI (DAJA, DAJB)

CNK -
New brake servo from Polo 6C GTI (DAJA, DAJB)

Shortly after replacing the brake calipers and fuel pump, I discovered that my brake servo was malfunctioning. The symptoms were that during the first braking, everything worked fine, but after several subsequent attempts, the braking efficiency deteriorated and a quiet whistling sound could be heard from behind the steering wheel.

Parts availability issue

I wanted to order a new servo for my Polo 6R WRC Street 2.0 TSI with part number 6R1614106L, but it turned out that this was not possible. The part 6R1614106L was later replaced with number 6C1614106C, and then 6C1614106F. I therefore had to order a newer brake booster, which according to ETKA was used together with a new dual-section brake master cylinder (e.g., in the Polo 6C GTI 1.8 TSI):

So I ordered the servo from Polo 6C 6C1614106F and waited for delivery.

Price

The cost of a new FTE brake servo at the authorized service center was 1291.15 PLN.

Compatibility issue

When I picked up the servo, and my Polo was already at the mechanic’s, it turned out that the new servo did not fit the brake master cylinder from Polo 6R WRC Street 6R1611019B, which I had purchased a few months earlier. The diameter of the hole in the servo was too large.

There was no longer an option to order the older servo, so I decided to change the master cylinder again, this time to the one used in the Polo 6C 1.8 TSI: 6R1611019G.

Conclusions

If you notice similar symptoms in your Polo (decreased braking efficiency after several pedal presses and an audible whistle), you will probably also need to replace the brake servo.

Replacing the brake servo significantly improved the operation of the braking system in my Polo. The brake stopped “giving up” after several presses, and the disturbing sounds disappeared.

If you notice similar symptoms in your Polo, you will most likely also need to replace the brake servo. It’s worth knowing that:

If you notice similar symptoms in your Polo, you will most likely also need to replace the brake servo. It’s worth knowing that:

  • Symptoms of a damaged servo include: decreased braking efficiency after several pedal presses and a characteristic quiet whistle
  • The brake servo and brake master cylinder must be compatible with each other
  • In the case of Polo 6R WRC Street with a 2.0 TSI engine, when replacing the servo with a newer model 6C1614106F (PR: 1ZR, 1ZP), you will probably also need to replace the brake master cylinder with 6R1611019G (PR: 1AT+1ZR, 1ZP)
  • Even when ordering original parts at the authorized service center according to the VIN and PR-Codes, not everything always fits perfectly, because many parts have been replaced, and ETKA does not show detailed data such as screw sizes, hole diameters, etc.
