Comparison of the design of the air filter from the VW Polo 6R/Seat Ibiza/Audi A1 2.0 TSI/TDI to the filter from the R32.

Factory VW Polo’s have very neutered airflow, even the version of the filter can from the Polo 6R WRC Street 2.0 TSI (the same as on the Audi A1 Quattro, Audi 2.0 TDI and Ibiza 2.0 TDI) has a very restrictive air guide and a minimally smaller outlet to the MAF.

Initially, I wanted to fit a filter can with R32 (1K0129607) at my place, which is the same as was factory fitted in the VW Golf V / Audi TT with the 3.2 (BUB) engine, Audi A3 8P with the 3.2 (BDB, BMJ, BUB) engine, Volkswagen Passat with the 3.2 (AXZ) and 3.6 (BLV) engine.

Below are some photos for comparison of the two filters:

In VAGs with the VR6 engine the airflow is more deliberate, this is a popular modification when increasing power in 2.0 TSI owners, but mainly in slightly larger cars like Golf, Scirocco, Leon etc.

The air filter from cars with the 3.2 and 3.6 engines is very similar to the one fitted to the Audi RS3 8P 2.5 TFSI (CEPA) – part number: 8J0129607C. The difference is mainly that the filter can from the RS3 has an additional air outlet (outlet) towards the gearbox:

Besides, the RS3 2.5 has the same dimensions and the same air filter element as in the Golf 5 (part number: 1K0129620).
