New In-Tank Fuel Pump -
DeatschWerks DW65v FWD

CNK -
New In-Tank Fuel Pump - DeatschWerks DW65v FWD

Recently, my Polo had its software improved at Digitun, which finally fixed the engine jerking on cold starts – an effect of removing the swirl flaps from the intake manifold. This modification requires software changes. Unfortunately, the previous tuner had no idea how to do it…

While logging with Chris, we discovered that my fuel pump in the tank was working at 100% power all the time, which was neither optimal nor safe for the pump itself in the long run. When changing the engine, the previous workshop supposedly checked a used pump from a 2.0 TSI and found it worked worse than a slightly boosted pump from a 1.4 MPI. When looking for a factory pump for the Polo 6R WRC Street, it turned out that the WRC has the same pump in the tank as a regular 1.2 – so also without any reserve…

Initially, I wanted to buy a BAR-TEK pump (called upgrade Low pressure fuel pump V3 suitable for TFSI & TSI), but on the tuner’s advice, I quickly abandoned that idea (apparently it’s Chinese junk that breaks down often).

Following Chris’s recommendations, I bought an original pump from DW.

Technical Information

I decided on the DeatschWerks DW65v pump (model DW-9-654-1025) for FWD. It’s a compact pump designed specifically for vehicles from the VW/Audi group, so it fits perfectly into the factory mounts without any modifications.

Product code: DW-9-654-1025

Key advantages:

  • Higher output: 265 l/h at 40 PSI (about 40% more than in the stock TT225)
  • Compatibility with E85 and E10 fuels and ethanol
  • Power support capability of up to 500HP

Technical specifications:

  • Operating voltage: min. 6V, max. 18V
  • Compatible with factory connectors (no wiring modifications needed)
  • Compact 65mm housing fitting factory mounts
  • 3-year manufacturer warranty
