Steering wheel reupholstered with leather

Steering wheel reupholstered with leather

I previously wrote about reupholstering my steering wheel with alcantara. To keep the alcantara steering wheel in good condition for longer, I decided to refresh a second steering wheel with classic leather for everyday driving.

Photos of the leather reupholstered steering wheel

Below are photos showing the condition of the steering wheel before restoration and the result after reupholstering with new leather:

The steering wheel was restored again at Cardio Auto Detailing, with the thread matched to the factory silver from the R-Line.

I paid 400 PLN for the leather reupholstering. Now the steering wheel looks like new and will serve for many years to come. Leather reupholstering is cheaper than alcantara and more practical for daily use – it’s easier to keep clean, more resistant to hand sweat, and doesn’t collect dust as much.

Leather or alcantara – which to choose?

After experiencing both options, I can say that:

  • Leather – more practical for daily use, easier to maintain, cheaper to reupholster
  • Alcantara – better grip, more sporty character, more pleasant to touch, but requires more care and is more expensive

The ideal solution? Two steering wheels as in my case – one for everyday use, the other for weekend drives 🙂
