First symptoms
Approaching the car, there was a nice smell of gasoline. Unfortunately, it turned out that fuel was dripping from under the car from a leaking filter. Unfortunately, the annual maintenance at Volkswagen authorised service station, as you can see, did not include such a complicated operation as replacing the fuel filter, so we had to do it on our own….
The original fuel filter after 8 years and almost 70,000 km of mileage looked like this:
Location of the filter
In the Polo, the fuel filter is located under the car, near the rear axle. Access to it requires lifting the car on a jack.
Solving the problem
I decided to install a replacement for the original part. This is a temporary solution, but fully sufficient, especially since I plan to change the drive unit soon…. (this is the last moments with the 1.4 CGGB in my Pole) 😉
My Polo uses a standard 4 BAR fuel filter with part number 6Q0201051J– this is the part installed in all Polo models, except for the 2.0 TSI version.
It is worth remembering that the fuel filter is a consumable item – regular inspection of its condition will help avoid unpleasant surprises.
