The automobile control arm is one of the most important suspension components in a car. It’s worthwhile sometimes to make sure it’s operating at full capacity.
Over the winter when I had to quickly swap knuckles to get my 9n3 working as it should, I noticed that the control arm bushings in my Polo 6R were still factory – despite the workshop’s assurances that they would be thrown in full ones from R32/TT 8N when the suspension was changed…. I guess I’m unlucky about mechanics, so I decided to go for it myself 😀 By the way, I decided to replace all other rusty bolts, nuts, etc.

To begin with, a list of parts that need to be replaced:
| Part number | Name | Qty | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| guide joint / trailing-arm suspension ball pin, left | 1 | 85,00 zł (FEBI F36051) |
| guide joint / trailing-arm suspension ball pin, right | 1 | 85,00 zł (FEBI F36052) |
| hex collared bolt M12X1, 5X70 | 2 | 19,00 zł (FEBEST 2398-004-KIT) |
| 2 | 33,00 zł (Lemfoerder LEM 2111301) | |
| bonded rubber bush/ bushing for trailing-arm suspension Audi TT / Audi A1 | 2 | 38,21 (Lemforder LEM 2713201) |
| bonded rubber bush (front) | 2 | 15,50 zł (Lemfoerder) |
| hexagon collar nut M12X1,50 | 2 | 8,00 zł |
| hexagon bolt | 2 | 22,00 zł |
| hexagon nut, self-locking | 2 | 9,90 zł |
| hexagon collar nut self-locking M12X1,5 | 2 | 8,60 zł |
| hexagon collar nut M10 | 6 | 10,00 zł |
| hexagon collar nut self-locking M12X1,5 | 2 | 7,80 zł |
| oval hexagon socket head bolt M12X1,5X80 | 2 | 19,99 zł (Febi Bilstein F27876) |
| hose bracket | 2 | 3,50 zł (Febi Bilstein F19520) |
| suspension strut storage | 2 | 44,00 zł (FEBI F09228) |
Normally if you replace something you should also replace the nuts and bolts, I don’t know why most mechanics I come across don’t do this ;x

2. Ball pin nut M12X1,5 N90808801
Tightening torque: 20 Nm and turn 90° further
The nut was already included with the FEBI ball pin – it will stay for the future 🙂

3. Hexagon collar nut M10 N10332002
Tightening torque: 100 Nm

The nuts can be seen in the photos of the control arm pins (above)
4. Bushing for trailing-arm suspension (rear) 6R0407181B/ 8N0407181B
Like all owners of more “sport” Polos, I opted for full control arm bushings from the Audi TT/Audi A1. According to many people, this is the perfect option between the standard bushings (with a hole) and the red polyurethane.
