Unplanned dismantling of crossovers

Unplanned dismantling of crossovers

The bearings died in my gruff commuter car (Polo 9n3 1.9 TDI). There was no point in replacing the bearings themselves, as the factory ones under the FS-III calipers prevent the installation of better brake calipers. I needed something to drive on, so I quickly unscrewed the entire wheel bearing housings along with the calipers from my Polo 6R – for the 6R I already have new steering wheel housings bought, which have been painted blue.

Unfortunately, when dismantling the crossovers, some new less interesting things came out:

the workshop that did my engine swap didn’t put my front brake cooling air guides back in – well, it’s not for me to judge, these plastics are cheap enough that they probably just got lost – having such an eternity of chaos on the shop floor and keeping junk from one started car inside another car it doesn’t surprise me at all that so many parts were lost….

2 As if that wasn’t enough, they put on the KW V3 suspension without changing the old control arm bushings, links etc. – despite assurances that bushings from the R32/Audi TT 8N would be thrown in. Unfortunately, some people are only good at promising…. Tough luck, I’ll get on with it myself – I’ve ordered new control arm bushings, links, bolts and nuts.

3 I have noticed a lot of parts covered with rust, which seems normal, especially as the car is almost 12 years old and also used in winter. I will look into it soon 🙂

Thanks to Tobias for his online help in dismantling it all!

I had completely baked calipers on my older 9n3, so I used the brakes from a Polo 6R in it:

The disadvantage of the FS-III calipers is that they are completely unsuitable for braking in dynamic city driving, which meant that I had to change discs and pads every 3-4 months. This has caused me to accumulate some scrap metal:
