I couldn’t find an engine controller anywhere near me, so I had to buy one in the UK. If anyone would like to order something and doesn’t know how it works I’ll try to bring the subject a little closer and illustrate it with my own example.
Parcel sent by DHL, seemingly everything was fine, but due to Brexit the delivery dragged on…. To be honest this is pretty much my last order from the UK.
A week after shipping, I received an email from DHL Customs Agency:
I had to send them pictures of my ID, purchase confirmations, a description of the item I bought and what it was for, etc. etc. They also wanted documents from the controller, but apart from screenshots and the order confirmation I had nothing else. Once I had sent them pictures of the documents and thought everything would be cool, it turned out that the email didn’t arrive because on the postmaster@dhl.com account the maximum message size is 12MB 😱.
Once the compressed images had been successfully uploaded, the case was passed on at DHL to prepare and send a declaration to Customs….
After another week of waiting, I got the info from DHL Express (express in the name, I guess that’s just sarcasm… ;x) that “In connection with the shipment, it is necessary to pay import duty/tax”, and “The amount due is PLN 388.00.”
So in addition to the £33 postage, there was almost PLN400 worth of duty…. After paying the duty, the parcel finally made its way to the workshop that looked after my Polo.
A few months earlier when I ordered an engine from the UK, a palletised package was delivered in about 4 days for about £700. Now I’ve paid a similar price to send a controller roughly the size of a packet of chocolates…. 😀
