Refreshing the front suspension components

CNK -
Refreshing the front suspension components

The automobile control arm is one of the most important suspension components in a car. It’s worthwhile sometimes to make sure it’s operating at full capacity.

Over the winter when I had to quickly swap knuckles to get my 9n3 working as it should, I noticed that the control arm bushings in my Polo 6R were still factory – despite the workshop’s assurances that they would be thrown in full ones from R32/TT 8N when the suspension was changed…. I guess I’m unlucky about mechanics, so I decided to go for it myself 😀 By the way, I decided to replace all other rusty bolts, nuts, etc.

To begin with, a list of parts that need to be replaced:

Normally if you replace something you should also replace the nuts and bolts, I don’t know why most mechanics I come across don’t do this ;x

1. Trailing-arm suspension ball pins (6R0407365B + 6R0407366B)

6R0407365B – left
6R0407366B – right

2. Ball pin nut M12X1,5 N90808801

Tightening torque: 20 Nm and turn 90° further

The nut was already included with the FEBI ball pin – it will stay for the future 🙂

3. Hexagon collar nut M10 N10332002

Tightening torque: 100 Nm

The nuts can be seen in the photos of the control arm pins (above)

4. Bushing for trailing-arm suspension (rear) 6R0407181B/ 8N0407181B

Like all owners of more “sport” Polos, I opted for full control arm bushings from the Audi TT/Audi A1. According to many people, this is the perfect option between the standard bushings (with a hole) and the red polyurethane.

13. Oval hexagon socket head bolt M12X1, 5X80 N90954802

The bolt from Febi F27876 comes immediately with a nut (#21) – will be for later 😉

14. Hose bracket 191611715

Febi Bilstein F19520 – it is worth replacing on occasion, because the rusty one looks ugly on the inox shock absorber 🙂
